Axial two-dimensional three-point Dixon MR image (TR/TE, 1200/36) shows
increased signal in lateral facet of patellar cartilage (black arrow)
that was read as grade 1 lesion and confirmed by arthroscopy. Medial patellar
facet shows partial thickness loss of articular cartilage that was interpreted
as grade 3 lesion and confirmed by arthroscopy (open arrow). Adjacent
to partial thickness defect, surface irregularity is noted
(arrowhead) that was read as grade 2 lesion and confirmed by
arthroscopy. Underlying bone marrow edema (white arrow) was thought
to represent early arthritic changes.
