These nonenhancing, hypointense bands are probably areas of fibrosis within enhancing active fibroblasts. Patients with Gardner syndrome or familial adenomatous polyposis have 20% lifetime risk of extraabdominal or, more commonly, intraabdominal desmoid tumor.
