Advanced sonographic technology can depict cause of nipple discharge and also guide biopsy (fine-needle aspiration, core needle, and vacuum-assisted biopsy; preoperative localization for excisional biopsy; and percutaneous ductography). However, sonography is inferior to ductography for detecting peripheral lesions without ductal dilatation.
