RICHARD S. HEILMAN M.D.1, CEMALETTIN TOPUZLC M.D.1, and MAUREEN MOLLOY M.D.1

1 From the Departments of Radiology, Surgery and Orthopedic Surgery, The University of Vermont, College of Medicine, Burlington, Vermont

1. Osteochondromata about the knee can be responsible for the development of vascular damage in the popliteal space and are reported to have produced thrombosis, false aneurysm or arteriovenous fistulae in 9 cases.

2. The symptoms, signs and roentgenographic finding are briefly discussed.

3. The onset of pain, swelling and altered pulses in the popliteal space or distal medial thigh in a patient with dyschondromatosis or known to have an osteochondroma arising from the posterior distal femur should raise the possibility of vascular accident and is an indication for femoral arteriography.
