ANGIOGRAPHIC DEMONSTRATION OF DURAL BRANCHES OF THE INTERNAL CAROTID ARTERY IN SPHENOID RIDGE MENINGIOMAS

Four cases of meningiomas arising from the sphenoid ridge are reported. In all 4 cases enlarged dural branches of the cavernous or ganglionic portion of the internal carotid artery were contrast-filled, and in 3 cases these vessels seemed to have supplied the tumor stain.

Visualization of these vessels seems to indicate the location of the pathologic process with rich vascular supply and is not necessarily pathognomonic of the sphenoid ridge meningioma; however, the preoperative confirmation of the dural attachment of the tumor greatly favors operative procedures.
