CATHETER TECHNIQUES IN PEDIATRIC CEREBRAL ANGIOGRAPHY

THOMAS H. NEWTON M.D.1 and CHARLES A. GOODING M.D.1

1 From the Department of Radiology, University of California School of Medicine, San Francisco, California

Transfemoral catheterization of the carotid and vertebral arteries is the method of choice in pediatric cerebral angiography. With the demonstrated relative ease of this procedure, cerebral angiography is now more frequently applied in the diagnosis of neurologic abnormalities in children. The catheter technique avoids the morbidity often associated with multiple vessel punctures of the cervical region and allows selective opacification of a particular vascular bed.
