A "brain stain" of the frontal, parietal and occipital lobes has been observed in 4 children with infantile subdural hematomas.
This cortical opacification is the result of cerebral compression and a decrease in venous drainage from the compressed hemisphere. This stain defines the craniocerebral disproportion and indicates a poor prognosis for the preservation of intellect.
