CLINICAL EXPERIENCE WITH A NEW TYPE OF CONTRAST MEDIUM IN ANGIOCARDIOGRAPHY AND THORACIC AORTOGRAPHY

LARS BJÖRK 1, UNO ERIKSON 1, and BJÖRN INGELMAN 1

1 From the Departments of Diagnostic Radiology (Head: Prof. H. Lodin) and Clinical Chemistry (Head: Prof. A. Grönwall), University Hospital, Uppsala and Pharmacia AB, Uppsala, Sweden

In a series of 20 patients being routinely examined by angiocardiography or thoracic aortography as part of a preoperative evaluation for cardiac disease, a newly synthesized contrast agent Ph DZ 59B was compared with methylglucamine diatrizoate.

When compared in a double blind study at the same iodine concentration, Ph DZ 59B was found to give less subjective adverse effects and also significantly less changes in heart rate and systolic blood pressure than methylglucamine diatrizoate.
