Bronchopulmonary arterial shunts develop in inflammatory and neoplastic lesions of the lungs. Such anastomoses were demonstrated in the cystic right upper lobe of an infant. Because of this finding, an infectious etiology is assumed for these cysts, as similar anastomoses have not been reported in congenital malformations of the lungs.
