1. The distribution of coronary arterial blood within the myocardium was visualized in the dog by rapid scintillation imaging after injection of Xe133 into the left coronary artery or its branches.
2. Acute myocardial infarction was then induced by a closed-chest method and the myocardial distribution of coronary arterial blood was re-visualized.
3. The postinfarction distribution of coronary arterial blood was smaller and configurationally altered in comparison to the distribution in the normal state.
4. The method appears to have potential application to detection of regional myocardial ischemia in man.
