BLOOD FLOW MEASUREMENT THROUGH SINGLE CORONARY ARTERIES BY ROENTGEN DENSITOMETRY

PART II. RIGHT CORONARY ARTERY FLOW IN CONSCIOUS MAN

Since roentgendensitometric coronary flow measurement has shown no systematic deviation from simultaneous electromagnetic flow values in dogs, the flow through the right coronary artery was measured in man with this new principle. Only patients with normal appearance of the right coronary artery were included. The mean flow in 13 patients with a mean body surface area of 1.73 ± 0.07 (± 1 SE) m.2 amounted to 86.7 ± 9.1 ml./min. This value is consistent with the results of the washout methods which only yield flow per unit of tissue if one assumes that the right coronary artery perfuses normally somewhat more than 1/3 of the myocardial mass.
