SCINTIANGIOGRAPHY OF CEREBRAL ARTERIOVENOUS MALFORMATIONS AND ANEURYSMS

EUGENE F. BINET M.D.1 and MERLE K. LOKEN M.D., PH.D.

1 United States Public Health Service Trainee in Neuroradiology (Grant No. 0900-4147).

Six patients with intracerebral arteriovenous malformations or large aneurysms were studied by both cerebral angiography and rapid sequential serial scintiphotography employing the scintillation (Anger) camera. In addition, computer analysis of the scintiphotographic studies depicted both the location and character of the vascular lesions.

Computer analysis of the radioisotope serves to quantitate the amount of isotope passing through the vascular lesion as compared to the normal brain. In several cases, the computer analyses yielded information not obtained from the cerebral angiographic studies.
