AUTOMATION IN THE NUCLEAR MEDICINE LABORATORY: AN ALGORITHM FOR INTERPOLATION ON A 5 POINT STANDARD CURVE

MARTIN L. NUSYNOWITZ LTC, MC, USA

The construction of a standard curve from which the results of a series of specimens are determined is a time consuming but commonly encountered laboratory process. An algorithm for the total automation of this procedure is presented. When used with a desk top digital computer, the standard curve is mathematically constructed, data are automatically read in, the appropriate region of the curve is utilized to derive the solution, and the answer is automatically printed out. Advantages of such a program include speed, accuracy, and legibility of results. The program is adaptable to a variety of commonly encountered problems.
