FALSE POSITIVE BRAIN SCAN ASSOCIATED WITH FEBRILE CONVULSIONS

A 14 month old girl had an abnormal brain scan associated with a febrile convulsion. We consider this a false positive result since further diagnostic evaluation and a brain scan performed 10 months later were normal. The brain scan abnormality was located in the region of the choroid plexus and, presumably, perchlorate pretreatment would have prevented the false positive result due to accumulation of radiopertechnetate.
