FLUID IN THE RIGHT FLANK AS A ROENTGENOGRAPHIC SIGN OF ACUTE APPENDICITIS

R. BURKE CASPER M.D.

The roentgen finding of fluid interposed between colonic contents and the fat flank stripe in the right lower quadrant is emphasized as a frequent and reliable indication of appendicitis.

This finding was present in over one-half of the cases later coming to surgery with acute appendicitis.

The next most frequent finding was that of fluid levels in the cecum or ascending colon.
