HEALING IN CONGENITAL OSSEOUS SYPHILIS

EMANUEL J. LEVIN M.D.

There is a striking uniformity and rapidity in the rate and pattern of healing in penicillin treated congenital osseous syphilis.

Within 2 weeks healing is evident and within 2 months it is almost complete.

In 1 patient, contrary to accepted concepts, there was residual deformity consisting of moderately severe anteromedial bowing of the femora 2 years after treatment. It is probable but not certain that the deformity is consequent upon the severity of bone involvement.
