THE VALUE OF EPINEPHRINE IN THE DIAGNOSIS OF EPIDERMOID CARCINOMA OF THE KIDNEY

LAWRENCE S. ROSS M.D.1 and HAROLD A. BALTAXE M.D.

1 South Nassau Communities Hospital, Oceanside, Long Island, New York.

Loss of tumor neovascularity after epinephrine administration in a relatively vascular epidermoid carcinoma involving the entire kidney and adrenal is cited as further reason for skepticism regarding the use of this study to distinguish neoplasm from inflammation.

A review of the literature pertinent to epinephrine enhancement indicates that the nonspecificity of the study is well documented despite its frequent use.
