RENAL PSEUDOTUMORS DUE TO ECTOPIC ACCESSORY RENAL ARTERIES: THE ANGIOGRAPHIC DIAGNOSIS

MYO M. KYAW M.D.1 and HARRY NEWMAN M.D.2

1 Department of Radiology, University of Utah Medical Center, Salt Lake City, Utah.
2 University of California San Francisco Medical Center, San Francisco, California.

Renal pseudotumor composed of an over-growth of normal parenchymal tissues is an occasional sequela of a variety of insults to a kidney.

These insults may be related to a kidney’s function or its development.

Only a few of the congenital or developmental malformations responsible for producing pseudotumors have been described in the literature. The angiographic demonstration of renal pseudotumors seen in the kidneys of 2 patients with ectopic arterial supplies is described in this report.

The mechanism of pseudotumor development in these malformations is also discussed.
