Three of the 38 cases reviewed in this retrospective study of pyogenic arthritis demonstrated the presence of dystrophic periarticular calcifications.
These soft tissue calcifications, which are indicative of severe soft tissue disruption, occurred several weeks after the onset of the illness in those patients with severe and prolonged illnesses.
