A study of 142 patients with Peyronie's disease treated with orthovoltage roentgen rays from 1931 to 1968 indicates that 77 are alive, have been treated properly, and can be reached by telephone or mail. Of this group 26 or 33.8 per cent are well, many for long periods of time, and most of them became well in relatively short periods of time, indicating that their good results were not due to a natural process.
A study of the 51 cases not cured indicated that pain with erection was improved in 84.3 per cent, induration in the corpora cavernosa reduced in 76.4 per cent and curvature of the shaft improved in 62.7 per cent.
Most of our patients were more than 50 years old when they were first examined and these older people have learned to live with the disease and have deeply appreciated any improvement that could be produced. However, such was not always the case with the younger men, and a study of the histories of 5 patients varying from 18 to 38 years of age at the time of admission is included.
