1 Chief of Radiology Department.
Two cases of intramural masses of the colon due to diverticular disease are reported.
One case demonstrates the type of mass seen in acute diverticular disease of the ascending colon, with regression following medical therapy.
The other case demonstrates the chronic intramural mass, unassociated with any acute findings, which may follow a microperforated diverticulum. It was also unusual because of its location at the splenic flexure, and it was the sole evidence of diverticular disease in the colon.
The differential diagnosis and management of these 2 types of lesions are discussed.
