A METHOD FOR THE ESTIMATION OF PULMONARY VENOUS AND ARTERIAL PRESSURES FROM THE ROUTINE CHEST ROENTGENOGRAM

A. FRANKLIN TURNER M.D.1, FRANCIS Y. K. LAU M.D.2, and GEORGE JACOBSON M.D.3

1 Professor of Radiology and Medicine.
2 Professor of Medicine and Radiology (Cardiology).
3 Professor and Chairman, Department of Radiology.

A simplified method for estimating pulmonary venous and arterial pressures utilizing a step-by-step approach to the assessment of post-capillary and pre-capillary components is presented.

The correlation with cardiac catheterization values is remarkably good.

Pulmonary disease and increased total pulmonary blood flow are the major sources of inaccurate estimations.
