POSITIVE CONTRAST PERITONEOGRAPHY: THE ABNORMAL ABDOMEN

DAVID W. GELFAND M.D.

This paper describes the roentgenographic appearance of a variety of pathologic conditions as seen during positive contrast peritoneography, and is a sequel to the author’s previous description of normal abdominal anatomy as visualized by this procedure.

The material studied includes benign and malignant neoplasm, metastatic lesions, retroperitoneal masses, organ enlargements, adhesions and hernias.

The ease and clarity with which the major peritoneal compartment and its contents can be visualized suggest that positive contrast peritoneography may be preferable to pneumoperitoneum in certain applications.
