POSITION OF THE DUODENAL BULB AND LIVER SIZE

KENNETH R. KATTAN M.D. and MYRON MOSKOWITZ M.D.

The barium filled duodenal bulb on the prone Bucky roentgenogram is most frequently located at a level below the twelfth rib, to the right of the midline and above the upper border of L3.

Displacement above this area strongly suggests a small liver, whereas displacement below and to the left suggests hepatomegaly.

Exceptions are discussed.
