Approximately 10 per cent of pheochromocytomas cannot be visualized by arteriography. Past reports have incriminated a number of causes for this occurrence.
Partial necrosis of these tumors may occur and may be one more reason for nonvisualization of pheochromocytoma by anteriography. Thus, it is recommended that adrenal venography be performed when a pheochromocytoma is suspected clinically, but cannot be demonstrated by arteriography.
