Cystitis cystica is an uncommon complication of urinary tract infection. Three patients with the disorder are reported. All had cystography and intravenous pyelography and were cystoscoped. Two had biopsies of the urinary bladder. In Case 1, the roentgenographic appearance suggested a bladder tumor.
Although cystitis cystica is benign histologically, its resistance to antibacterial therapy and, occasionally, a bizarre appearance on the cystogram distinguish it from ordinary cystitis.
Cystitis cystica should be considered as a possibility when deformity and multiple filling defects of the bladder are found on cystography.
