A retrospective study of 91 patients with Hodgkin’s disease, treated by irradiation, was undertaken to compare the hematologic tolerance in splenectomized and nonsplenectomized cases.

The cases were analyzed according to several parameters, and the results are discussed.

The authors believe that the data presented here demonstrate a better hematologic tolerance to extended field and total lymph node irradiation in the splenectomized patient as compared to the nonsplenectomized patient who is receiving similar treatment.

Our results confirm the observations of other investigators in similar studies, even though the data were not evaluated for statistical significance.
