Dose reduction low pulse-rate fluoroscopy utilizing a magnetic video disc recorder integrated into an x-ray system has
been employed successfully during the
performance of cardiac catheterization and
angiography for the past 2
years.
A short x-ray pulse is recorded by the disc recorder and then played back immediately on the television viewing monitor. Subsequent pulses are recorded and played back automatically at a preset time interval resulting in a flicker-free, pseudocontinuous fluoroscopic image.
Pulse rates as low as 7
frames per second
have been used during coronary arteriography usually without difficulty, resulting
in dose reduction over 5 times that which
would have resulted during performances of
these procedures with standard fluoroscopy.
