PERITONEOGRAPHY

DEMONSTRATION OF NORMAL AND ABNORMAL MURAL THICKNESS

MORTON A. MEYERS M.D., STUART W. YOUNG M.D., and HALAPPA G. HAKKAL M.D.

Conventional contrast studies of the alimentary tract do not directly demonstrate the wall.

Peritoneography, the intraperitoneal instillation of a water-soluble contrast medium and gas, consistently permits precise detailed evaluation of the mural thickness of the bowel and the dome of the urinary bladder. It extends roentgenologic diagnostic capabilities in intraabdominal disease in demonstrating occult lesions, the extent of disease states, and in contributing to accurate preoperative staging of a neoplasm.
