Tc99m sulfacolloid or Au198 liver scans and selective hepatic and superior mesenteric arteriograms from 35 patients with hepatomas were evaluated as to accuracy in predicting operability or inoperability.
The scans and angiograms agreed in 27 patients and were correct in 23 as to operability or inoperability of the tumors. They disagreed in 8 cases.
The angiograms were more accurate in predicting operability or inoperability than the scan in 6 cases; in 2 cases the scan accurately predicted inoperable tumor when the angiographic findings suggested that they were operable. The reasons for this discrepancy are discussed.
