ROENTGENOLOGICALLY DEMONSTRABLE CALCIFICATION IN TUMORS OF THE BLADDER

REPORT OF THREE CASES

HAROLD D. DAVIDSON M.D.1, DAVID M. WITTEN M.D.2, and ORMOND S. CULP M.D.3

1 Fellow in Radiology in the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine (University of Minnesota), Rochester, Minnesota
2 From the Mayo Clinic and Mayo Foundation, Sections of Roentgenology, Rochester, Minnesota
3 From the Mayo Clinic and Mayo Foundation, Sections of Urology, Rochester, Minnesota

The literature with regard to roentgenologically demonstrable calcification of urinary bladder tumors has been surveyed, and 3 additional cases in which this phenomenon occurred have been reported. The extremely rare finding of a primary osteogenic sarcoma of the urinary bladder and a brief review of the related literature have been presented. The finding of unusual calcific densities in the region of the urinary bladder within a space-occupying lesion probably is an ominous sign.
