BEHAVIOR OF ANTERIOR BASAL CEREBRAL STRUCTURES IN MIDLINE TUMORS OF THAT REGION

A roentgenologic study of the midline structures, in particular the septum pellucidum, body and anterior pillars of the fornix, and the different routes of malignant invasion is presented. The behavior of colloid cysts of the third ventricle in distorting the midline structures, causing hydrocephalus and a possible "flap-valve" mechanism, is described.

The roentgenologic appearance of the midline structures in the presence of benign tumors located in the suprasellar region and malignant tumors in the frontal sections is also described.

The roentgenologic signs found in the two entities of midline tumors are considered to be of differential diagnostic value.
