A NEW METHOD OF PERCUTANEOUS CATHETERIZATION

A method has been described whereby a closed-end catheter or other special-tipped catheter can be passed into an artery or vein percutaneously using a thin sheath of mylar. To date, the method has been used almost exclusively in children with No. 5 and No. 6 French catheters. Thirty arterial catheterizations and 16 venous catheterizations have been performed with no serious complications. In our laboratory, this method has added considerably, to the flexibility and use of the conventional percutaneous method of catheterization.
