Colon Cancer

carcinogens never bother
to send postcards of condolences
e-mails of profound sorrow
                                         instead

doggedly persist on permeating
networks of lymphatics and blood
stream conspiracy and coup d'etat
                                         worse still

stubbornly gnawing on mucosal
surfaces and peritoneal linings
lymph node roadblocks and detours
                                        furthermore

precursors neither utter
goodbye to funerals and wakes
nor indulge in self-pity
                                          amidst

recurrences and flare-ups
and letdowns and exacerbations
and remissions and status quo
                                          let go

neoplasm masquerades as uninvited
guest genetic passerby discarded
specimen of random serendipity
                                          now then

this candid moment
drop by the bus stop
for simulated long trip home
hospice awaits you
