WEB—This is a Web exclusive article.

In their pictorial essay on abdominal manifestations of cystic fibrosis in older children and adults, Fields and colleagues [1] stated that "fibrosing colonopathy has not been reported in adults." However, we [2] recently reported the case of a 25-year-old man with cystic fibrosis who underwent right hemicolectomy for gradually progressive bowel obstruction. Histologic examination of the resected specimen was consistent with fibrosing colonopathy. It is unclear whether previous exposure to high-dose pancreatic enzyme supplements, recurrent intestinal injury from impacted material, or other mechanisms were involved in the pathogenesis of the patient's fibrosing colonopathy. In our case report, we noted one other adult with cystic fibrosis and fibrosing colonopathy, reported in 1998 [3].
